'S'truth Cobber! - Eden Park Goal Posts Off To Oz?

'S'truth Cobber! - Eden Park Goal Posts Off To Aussie?

3 October 2010 - Auckland, NZ -

They've stood at Eden Park since 1960. They've seen off the Lions, the Springboks and the Welsh, but this time they may have succumbed to the Aussies.

The world famous Eden Park goal posts were sold at Trade Me auction at 8pm tonight for $15,050 to an Australian resident, newly registered on Trade Me under the buyer name of Bob Dwyer.

The coach of the Australian Rugby Team when they won the Rugby World Cup in 1991 was also named Bob Dwyer.

The Eden Park Trust Chief Executive David Kennedy says the people of Canterbury will be better of whoever the mystery buyer is.

"The Eden Park Trust is gifting the proceeds of the auction to the Christchurch earthquake Relief Fund. This is one city with a proud sporting record, helping out another at a time of need," Mr Kennedy said.

With almost 35,000 page views, the auction has generated a lot of interest in the major changes at Eden Park which will be officially re-opened by Prime Minister John Key next Sunday 10th of October, with a huge range of entertainments also planned for the public open day.

Just one problem remains for the buyer - Mr Bob Dwyer - the famous one or not - getting the two posts, which weigh in at 700kgs each, to Australia without paying a bundle in excess baggage.
