Migrant Expo Celebrates Five years

Migrant Expo Celebrates Five years

PRESS RELEASE

The 5th Waikato Migrant Expo & The International Students Fair 30 OCT 2010 @ The Meteor, 1 Victoria Street, Hamilton City Centre

HAMILTON (30 October 2010) ‹ The Waikato's only expo dedicated to addressing the settlement priorities of migrants and refugees, the 5th annual Waikato Migrant Expo will take place at the The Meteor, 1 Victoria Street, Hamilton City Centre (please note change of date and venue). Entry to the show is free of charge from 10am-4pm.

The show is expected to attract a record number of exhibitors and attendees, reflecting the growth of the migrant community in the Waikato area.

The Migrant Expo will feature exciting products and services pavilions including: Business Migrant, Money Matters, Settlement Support, Health and Safety, Education and Training, Career Advice and Government Departments. Plus a range of products and services.

The addition of a pavilion called the International Student Fair is expected to boost visitor numbers.

This year the focus is also on self-employment and business opportunities. The economic climate and the high level of unemployment among locals is making it difficult for new migrants to find jobs. Having a job is key to successful settlement, and a surer way to find one in New Zealand is through self-employment, say the organisers. The show will be the launch pad for the Hamilton Business Migrants Network (a counterpart of the Auckland network), a group that will hold networking meetings and mentor aspiring entrepreneurs to take the plunge.

The organisers are also keen to sponsor community groups and the smaller non-profit organizations to participate in the show.
