Aivale Cole at the Air Force Prom
Lexus Songquest Winner Aivale Cole at the Air Force
Proms
“Soprano Aivale Cole's
contribution was particularly distinguished, her warm,
finely spun tone soaring effortlessly above the thick
orchestral texture.” – The Australian, Paul
Hopwood 16 March 2010
“Her splendid performance reminded me of Maria Callas in her heyday. It was met with huge applause from the good-sized audience.” – Classical Music Reviews, Rosemary Collier/ 16 June 2010
It takes a big voice to match the powerful sound of the Air Force Band. Soprano Aivale Cole certainly has that voice. Soloist for the October 10 Air Force Proms, the 2009 Lexus Song Quest winner has music reviewers everywhere praising the effortless power of her rich, beautiful voice.
Since her Lexus win, Cole has performed with top symphony orchestras in Australia and New Zealand. In opera, she has received outstanding reviews for her performances as Aida and Madame Butterfly, and her national tour of “Leontyne’n’Ella” proves she can swing jazz standards with the best.
Singing with the Central Band of the RNZAF, Cole will treat the audience to some serious opera in the first half of the concert, with arias from Puccini’s La Boheme and Catalani’s La Wally. The second half of the concert is traditional Proms fare, where Cole will lead the audience in singing favourites such as Land of Hope and Glory and Jerusalem.
The Proms will be a spectacular occasion with something for everyone, including bagpipes and other solo performers, as well as the band’s brass, saxophones, woodwind and drummers.
The music performed will range from Proms classics and traditional favourites to jazz and modern hits, finishing with Tchaikovsky’s rousing 1812 Overture.
The concert will also pay a tribute to those who have served in the military. "The tradition of a military band can evoke memories and remembrances for past servicemen and women, and their families" said the Royal New Zealand Air Force’s Director of Music, Squadron Leader Owen Clarke. “Remembering especially those who have died in service is very important”.
