John Campbell Wins Best Current Affairs Presenter

John Campbell Wins Best News Or Current Affairs Presenter

John Campbell has won the coveted award for the Best News or Current Affair Presenter at this year’s Qantas Film and Television Awards held tonight at the Civic Theatre in Auckland.

The win is especially rewarding and well deserved for Campbell, both personally and professionally, after a year of ever-increasing ratings and some key wins for the Campbell Live show.

Director of News and Current Affairs, Mark Jennings says: “Campbell Live has been leading the way in daily current affairs this year and the programme’s coverage of the Canterbury earthquake has been outstanding. John is the best interviewer on New Zealand television and he richly deserves this award.”

Campbell Live also scored wins in two other categories, with Brook Sabin taking home the award for Best Current Affairs reporting for a daily programme with his story, “Darryl's Recovery”, and Catherine Hallinan also won the award for Best Current Affairs editing with the same story.

The awards wouldn’t be complete without several wins for New Zealand’s best loved drama, Outrageous Fortune.

This year saw South Pacific Pictures taking home the award with Outrageous Fortune for the Images and Sound Best Drama programme, as well as James Griffin receiving the win for Best Script – Drama/Comedy Programme.

The Jaquie Brown Diaries won the award for Best Comedy programme or Series for the second year in a row, coupled with a win for Gerard Johnstone in the category of Images and Sound Best Director – Drama/Comedy programme.

TV3’s other awards saw Best Entertainment Programme going to Satellite Media/Diva Productions for their brilliant work on The Topp Twins and the APO.

TV3 Sport also saw Nigel Carpenter win the Kordia Group Ltd Best Sports Broadcast for the superb coverage of the V8 Supercars Hamilton 400.

Director of Programming, Kelly Martin comments: “It’s extremely gratifying to have aired the Best Comedy, the Best Drama and the Best Entertainment programmes on 3 over the last year. Not only does it sum up what the channel stands for, it’s a testament to the very hard working production teams and our Local Production Network Executives.
