DHL Volunteers deliver helping hand to Surf Life Saving Clubs

Auckland 16 September 2010 – With Surf Lifeguards about to don their distinctive red and yellow uniforms and preparing for patrols which will begin from Labour weekend, DHL employees are out in force today, to make sure that three Auckland Surf Life Saving clubs are in good shape for summer.

Over 30 DHL employees will lend a hand to Piha, Muriwai and Red Beach Surf Life Saving Clubs as part of DHL Volunteer Day 2010 in preparation for the busy summer season.

DHL has been a proud supporter of Surf Life Saving New Zealand since 2003.  The partnership continues to be one of the largest corporate sponsorships for SLSNZ, and significantly contributes towards the ongoing costs associated with training, uniforms, rescue gear and equipment for Surf Life Saving clubs in New Zealand.

“DHL welcomes the opportunity to continue to work alongside SLSNZ to keep our beaches safe.  The partnership with SLSNZ is one that we are extremely proud of,” said Gary Edstein, Senior Vice President Oceania, DHL

“We are also extremely happy that our staff in New Zealand can help prepare Kiwi beaches for the summer, creating a tremendously positive impact on local communities”, added Terry Ryan, Senior Vice President, DHL Supply Chain, South Pacific

DHL Volunteer Day was introduced in Asia Pacific in 2008, it has expanded into America,  Middle East, Africa and Europe over the years, and continues to build on its success by involving more employees than ever before. From 16 to 26 September this year, around 30,000 employees, customers and business partners in over 100 countries are taking a day to participate in many diverse community projects in support of various local causes. These programs deliver to the company’s three corporate social responsibility pillars – Education (GoTeach), Environment (GoGreen) and Disaster Management (GoHelp).
