Free NZSO Concert booked out in Christchurch

15 September 2010 - NZSO Media Release for immediate release

Free NZSO Concert booked out in Christchurch

A free NZSO concert in Christchurch tomorrow night is now booked out, with 2,300 people snapping up seats.

The Christchurch Town Hall will be at capacity for the Soundscapes concert, which the NZSO hopes will offer the community some relief from the stress of the September 4 earthquake.

The NZSO has changed the programme order of the concert, which will now open with works by Maurice Ravel and Richard Strauss. After interval, young British guest conductor Alexander Shelley will lead the orchestra in Benjamin Britten’s Four Sea Interludes from the opera Peter Grimes.

The concert will end with James Macmillan’s inspirational Veni, Veni, Emmanuel, performed by energetic 33-year-old Scottish percussion star Colin Currie.

Mayor of Christchurch Bob Parker will address the audience at 6.30pm. Alexander Shelley and Colin Currie will speak later in the programme.
