One Man’s Battle With
Council Hits Big Screen
A local documentary that sold
out all screenings at this year’s New Zealand
International Film Festival opens in cinemas this
month.
Filmed over seven years, Gordonia is the account of Graham Gordon’s battle with the Waitakere City Council over his land, his cars and especially his very colourful tenants.
A character-based documentary dealing with an absolutely bizarre collection of Kiwi fringe-dwellers and a car-wrecking business in a beautiful plot of native bush, Gordon must fight the local council as they try to evict his tenants and close down his business.
Marcus Lush has called Gordonia "One of the most extraordinary New Zealand documentaries in recent times, or perhaps ever."
Mayor Bob Harvey says: "The West has never been wilder than in this beautifully crafted documentary."
A moving and engaging real-life David and Goliath story about a bunch of Westies and a bungled bureaucracy, Gordonia will sell out, so book early to avoid disappointment.
Screenings daily at the Academy in Auckland City from 23 September.
Special screenings at the Paramount in Wellington from 26 September.
West Auckland Premiere at Flicks in Titirangi on 1 October.
