Kiwis Name Bruce Willis The Greatest Action Movie Hero Ever
Bruce Willis has been name the greatest-ever
action hero, as voted by users on New Zealand’s leading
online movie website, Flicks.co.nz.
His 1988 starring vehicle, Die Hard, was also the clear winner as greatest action movie.
Flicks.co.nz’s poll asked the New Zealand public to vote for their favourite action stars, action movies, action movie dialogue and action movie moments. Over 5,000 votes were cast.
Current Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, was recognised as the king of action movie dialogue, with several lines from the Terminator series including: “I’ll be back”, “Come with me if you want to live”, and “Hasta la vista, baby”.
Directors with multiple films listed as favourites included James Cameron (Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Aliens), John McTiernan (Die Hard, Predator) and Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight, Inception)
New Zealand connection include Russell Crowe starring in sword and sandals favourite, Gladiator, and Kiwi director Martin Campbell’s Casino Royale being the only Bond film to make the Top 20.
The two women on the list were Sigourney Weaver and Angelina Jolie, the latter’s popularity likely boosted by current box-office hit, Salt.
The newest action film voted for was Inception (still in cinemas), while the oldest was 1971’s Dirty Harry, starring Clint Eastwood.
