Dance Academy on Nickelodeon
Dance Academy - the exhilarating new drama
series for teens, and anyone, anywhere, who’s ever had a
dream screening weeknights at 8pm from Friday 17th
September, exclusive to Nickelodeon New Zealand only on
Nick@Nite.
Fifteen-year-old Tara Webster (newcomer Xenia Goodwin) has grown up on a farm in outback Australia and has dreamt of being a dancer ever since she was a little girl. When she successfully auditions for a place at the prestigious National Academy of Dance based in Sydney - the best dance school in the country - she is sure her life is about to become spectacular. What Tara doesn’t realise is how far behind she is in her training, and there’s a whole lot more to surviving the Academy than just dancing...
This is the year Tara will leave her home on the farm; the year she will fall in love for the first time and have her heart broken. It’s a year of friendships and jealousies, triumphs and disappointments. This is the year she'll be tested. Does she have what it takes to be a dancer? Can she cope with being a teenager as well as pushing herself to the limit as she fights to achieve extraordinary things?
Fortunately, Tara is not alone in her journey and is joined by other boys and girls who have also won their place in the school. She, along with fellow students Katrina Karamakov, Ethan Karamakov, Samuel Lieberman, Abigail Armstrong and Christian Reed, must master all forms of dancing in their quest to be the best. Whether it’s Contemporary, Hip Hop, Tap, Funk or Acrobatics, the challenges they face makes So You Think You Can Dance look easy. The stakes are high and none of the teens can forget that at the end of the year not everyone makes the cut.
The all Australian cast includes Tara Morice (Strictly Ballroom); AFI nominee for Best Young Actor, Tom Green; Dena Kaplan (Flight of the Conchords); Tim Pocock (X-Men Origins: Wolverine); and the 2009 Logie nominee for Best New Talent, Jordan Rodrigues (Home and Away).
Dance Academy is produced by Joanna Werner’s (H20: Just Add Water, The Elephant Princess) production company, Werner Film Productions, for ABC TV and ZDF (Germany). It has already been nominated for an Australian Directors’ Guild Award in the Children’s Television category.
Dare to dream with these aspiring dancers as they chase their dreams – onstage and offstage – in the enthralling new series Dance Academy exclusive to Nick@Nite premiering Friday 17th September @ 8m on Nickelodeon NZ (SKY channel 041).
