MEDIA ANNOUNCEMENT / FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Firestone Pink Cap Drive re-launches and promises to be bigger, bolder and better
Bridgestone New Zealand Limited (BSNZ) and The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF) have teamed up again to re-launch the hugely successful ‘Firestone Pink Cap Drive’.
The two organisations have high hopes for the 2010 campaign. This year, BSNZ is aiming to raise $200,000 by selling 100,000 pink caps at $2.00 each. These will be sold both in-store and online (www.pinkcapdrive.co.nz) which goes live September 1st, 2010. 100% of the proceeds gathered will be donated to help improve breast cancer awareness and research.
The first ‘Firestone Pink Cap Drive’ ran in 2008, and in the first eight days of the campaign all 10,000 pink caps were sold with another 20,000 being ordered to meet demand
The campaign exceeded all expectations and BSNZ donated $63,950 to support The NZBCF.
Ken Oyama, Director New Zealand Business for Bridgestone New Zealand Limited says, “This year we have increased the initiative to support the life-saving work of the NZBCF and we have set ourselves the goal of raising $200,000, which is three times more than the 2008 campaign”.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer and affects one in nine New Zealand women in their lifetime. BSNZ recognise it is so pervasive that it could be any of their family members, colleagues, friends or customers who are fighting a battle with breast cancer.
“While $2 on its own may not seem like a significant amount, our combined efforts truly do make a difference.” adds Ken Oyama.
Heather Shotter, Executive Trustee of the NZBCF is delighted to see the return of Pink Cap Drive. “It’s fantastic to have this great fundraising campaign on again in 2010. The idea works because it operates in a traditionally male environment to galvanise all New Zealanders to do something to take action against breast cancer” she says.
This year BSNZ has enlisted Jeanette Thomas to front the campaign, so keep an eye out in-store or visit www.pinkcapdrive.conz to join the battle to make a little bit of pink go a long, long way.
