Newly Appointed Director of Te Reo ōna Tikanga me te Mātauranga
Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeremy Tātere MacLeod to the position of Director - Pouarataki o Te Reo ōna Tikanga me te Mātauranga.
The Director - Pouarataki of Te Reo ōna Tikanga me te Mātauranga is a permanent position in the Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated office.
Jeremy will be responsible for managing and further progressing the Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated Te Reo Māori Strategy which incorporates the safeguarding and protection of Kahungunutanga through the implementation of the Strategic Plan for the Revitalisation of Te Reo Māori o Ngāti Kahungunu 2006-2027 and the development of cultural and educational activities that enhance the wellbeing of Ngāti Kahungunu whānau, hapū, iwi.
Jeremy is of Ngāti Kurukuru (Ngāti Kahungunu), Ngāti Rangiwewehi (Te Arawa), Ngāti Uenukukōpako (Te Arawa), Ngā Mahanga (Taranaki), Ngāti Huataki (Rangitāne) and Ngāti Takihiku (Ngāti Raukawa te Au ki te Tonga) descent. Jeremy was born and raised in Brisbane Australia. At 18yrs of age he decided to come to Hawke’s Bay to live with his grandmother, Ruma McDonald. During this time Jeremy learned more about his whānau in Waimārama where he now dedicates much of his time. Soon after arriving in Aotearoa Jeremy began studies at Te Manga Māori, the Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) Hawke’s Bay where he achieved a Bachelor of Arts (Māori) Honours degree. During this time Jeremy was selected to travel to Tomakomai, Japan to study the indigenous Ainu and their language rejuvenation structures. Last year Jeremy accomplished extensive studies at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa: Te Panekiretanga o Te Reo (Institute of Excellence in Māori Language) lectured by Professors Tīmoti Kāretu, Te Wharehuia Milroy and Pou Tēmara.
We are pleased that Jeremy has accepted this great opportunity and we believe his experience and knowledge will add great value and support to the iwi.
