Wanted: Canterbury’s next musical vigilantes

Wanted: dead or alive - Canterbury’s next biggest musical vigilantes, a new brand of outlaw who shred from the hip; who will be the 2010 RounDUp Renegades? This showdown is open to all brave enough to face their fears and join the ranks of past Round Up outlaws including The Klap, The Tiger Tones, Bang! Bang! Eche!, Slipstream and The Undercurrents, Shapeshifter, The O’Lovelies, The Deceivers, The Insurgents, Heavy Jones Trio, P Bass Expressway and 2009 overall winner; Sleep Age.


- WHO WILL BE THE SHARPEST SHOOTERS OF 2010? -

The Christchurch live music scene is thriving, with over 500 bands currently listed on the CHART (christchurchmusic.org.nz) website. The Dux de Lux RounDUp 2010 is a tangible example of RDU’s commitment to developing locally produced, original music and sharing it with the wider New Zealand music industry. RDU 98.5FM is stoked to be collaborating with Christchurch’s key music industry partners to provide the winning band with the opportunity to get their career as a band rolling.

RounDUp 2009 showed just how necessary a competition like this is with over 50 original bands entering. Enter at the Dux de Lux, Hunters and Collectors or via www.rdu.org.nz
PRIZES


Bands that reach the final will automatically receive:
Vouchers thanks to Real Groovy and a mastered live recording of their performance thanks to Tandem Studios and MAINZ
The grand final winner will receive $1500 credit thanks to the Rockshop, a live mastered recording of their performance thanks to MAINZ and Tandem Studios, a studio recording thanks to The Sitting Room, a music video from this recording produced thanks to Gorilla Pictures, a promo photo session with Dean Mackenzie photography, management membership and mentoring thanks to Music Managers Forum, a live to air over the b.net from Auckland’s Red Bull studios and finally promotional support and mentoring thanks to CHART ...phew!

The Dux de Lux – winner of the New Zealand Bar of the Year Award for 2006 and 2008, has long been and is still, Christchurch’s leading showcase for contemporary New Zealand music featuring a weekly line up of new music every week. Located in central Christchurch, RounDUp 2010 will take over the entire 2500 person capacity complex and entertain our neighbourhood with Christchurch’s freshest music.

• Drop the form into the station, upstairs at the UCSA building, 90 Ilam Rd
• Drop it into Real Groovy, 179 Tuam St.
• Drop it into Galaxy Records, 110 Manchester St.

September also sees CHARTDISC Vol 4 being released into the musical wild thanks to the good people at CHART - Christchurchmusic.org.nz. Raw, energetic and rebellious, the bands represented here are the future of guitar based goodness, as again Otautahi (Christchurch) rises to the fore, illustrating its diversity as a city and its ability to have a bloody good time. CHARTDISC Vol 4's release honours RoundUp, the breeding ground for indie guitar bands in Christchurch, so keep an eye out for the free CD sampler during the competition, it will be available at all good records stores and online at Amplifier.co.nz.
