First Timer

Brit Taio Cruz can add toppling Eminem and Rihanna to his resume as he deposes the four-week champ Love The Way You Lie at the top of the Singles Chart.

Cruz accedes with Dynamite, which looked like it would gain him a TransTasman double but instead stalls at #2 for a second week in Australia.

The third of his hits here, it’s the only track to solely credit Cruz and the only one to reach the Top10.

Eminem may have lost one crown but he regains another as the aptly titled Recovery regains momentum to force locals Opshop and Until The End Of Time down a place. Eminem now has his longest album streak at the top here claiming a seventh non-consecutive frame in the pole position.

The New Singles

#30 Lady Gaga - Monster

Stefani takes a further slice off her repackaged The Fame: Monster with the title cut from the newer material. Monster is the week’s hottest new entry at #30 and gives Lady Gaga a 10th hit single in a shade over two years. All but one of them feature on the repackage.

#32 Tommy Trash & Tom Piper - The Bum Song

Another Aussie dance novelty dance ditty arrives, this time collaboration between Sydney DJs Tommy Trash and Tom Piper whose The Bum Song starts at #32. Coincidentally the only other backside-mentioning title to make our charts came from an Aussie duo too. That peaked in the same position 29 years back. The tune, Bite Ya Bum, was a Shaddap You Face parody by Adelaide radio jocks Bazz N Pilko.

#39 Ne-Yo - Beautiful Monster

Last week’s UK #1 Beautiful Monster returns Ne-Yo to the New Zealand Charts this week at #39. 30-year-old Shaffer Chimere Smith inks for a 10th time here. His fourth album, Libra Scale, drops in October.

#40 Jason DeRulo - What If

It’s just over a year since Haitian-American Jason DeRulo arrived with his chart-topping Whatcha Say. Now his fourth single What If gains a modest #40 start point this week. All four of his hits feature on his self-titled #5 debut album.

The New Albums

#21 Renee Geyer - The Ultimate Collection

In a stroke, Australian female soul singer bests her two previous chart albums here (the #30 So Lucky from 1981 and #50 The Very Best Of from 1998) with the second compile to register. The Ultimate Collection starts higher than any other release this week. Geyer, who turns 57 next month, has a pair of hit singles here. The Eddie Grant-penned Say I Love You made the top spot back in 1981, higher than its #5 peak in her homeland.

#23 Sola Rosa - Get It Together: The Remixes

Sola Rosa (aka Andrew Spraggon) reprises his biggest album Get It Together, which made #16 in a 17-week run last year, with a selection of new remixes. Get It Together: The Remixes arrives at #23.

#36 BARB - BARB

BARB got together in London and recorded their self-titled debut at Parnell’s Roundhead studio. The group consisting of locals James Milne (Lawrence Arabia), Liam Finn, Eliza-Jane, Connan Mockasin and Seamus Ebb slot the set in at #36.

#37 General Fiasco - Buildings

Northern Irish trio Owen Strathern,  Enda Strathern and Stephen Leacock are touring New Zealand as we speak, helping them to pick up a chart appearance with their debut long player Buildings, fresh at #37.
