Paper, Scissors, HOT
After the (relative) quiet of Maintenace Week it's back to business here at BATS with TWO openings last week, one of a wicked American play thats been a bit of hit all over the world, and the other a new New Zealand play. And you all know how much we love those here. Dog Sees God and Paper, Scissors, Rock have both been getting great reviews, the audiences are loving them (some coming back for a second helping!) and are booking really well, so make sure you don't miss out.
Meanwhile we are looking ahead to Katydid which opens next week. Their designer has been in and out this week measuring the place up and figuring out the logistics of having a bath onstage. Does this mean there might be a bit of skin on display? Let's hope so...
And thanks to everyone who joined us at The Pit to farewell Steph and welcome Martyn. Some hardy souls were still hanging around at 3am, and I'm told it was the biggest night at The Pit this year. I was hoping there would be some of that amazing pizza left over for breakfast this morning, but I missed out..
See you later in the week!

Dog Sees God
By Bert V Royal
FINAL WEEK! Until Saturday 14th August @ 8.30PM
$18 full / $13 concession / $10 School groups 10+
"As a parody of teen-angst drama (it covers all the clichés) it does go for gross but there’s more to it than that...its simple treatment of complex and enduring social issues leaves us with plenty to ponder." (John Smythe, Theatreview)
"Lori Leigh has elicited some first rate performances from her cast." (Laurie Atkinson, Dominion Post)
What happens when the kids from Peanuts grow up? They go... nuts (excuse the pun). Snoopy died of rabies, Linus smoked his blanket and the others have gone a bit teenage-mental too. A smart, funny play that I reckon you'll all be well in to.
Featuring a hot young cast of Wellingtonians, including Paul Waggott (Death and the Dreamlife of Elephants), David Goldthorpe (Chet Baker - Like Someone in Love), Anna Harcourt (Vernon God Little) and Alex Greig (The Bacchanals).

FINAL WEEK! Until Saturday 14th August @ 6.30PM
$18 full / $14 concession
"Excellent performances in an auspicious first play..." (Laurie Atkinson, Dominion Post)
"The essential truth of the sisters’ individuality and relationships makes for compelling theatre" (John Smythe, Theatreview)
Three sisters. All different, on their own paths when their parents go and screw things up for them. Now they have to actually work together to suss things out - imagine it. If your family dynamics are more realistic than most TV sitcoms, then you'll relate I'm sure.
A hot all female cast premieres this new NZ work at BATS, featuring Bonnie Soper (Shortland Street), Colleen Davis (Mr Marmalade, Jeff Koons) and Yael Gezentsvey (who also wrote it!).

and in The Pit Bar..
Thursday 12th August - Tom Rodwell, Storehouse play The Pit Bar from about 10pm to late.
At a gold coin donation there’s no real excuse not to come down and listen to Tom's performance of improvised rearrangements of obscure blues and 19th century slave-era spirituals and work songs. Recent tours include gigs in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Switzerland and the USA. And this week Tom's set may even feature a cameo from the talented Colleen Davis, currently appearing in Paper, Scissors, Rock. Not to be missed.
“Sheffield’s answer to Lightning Hopkins.” – NME
And remember, The Pit is open Tuesday to Saturday for drinks before, after or during the show, and is the perfect place to stop off after that romantic evening walk along Oriental Parade...

Katydid by Lucy O'Brien is not your usual Boy meets girl story - Katy happens to have Cerebal Palsy, and her dad just wants her to stay his little girl forever. We've got another double pass to give away, to use during the season. To win, just answer this simple question - which award was playwright Lucy O'Brien nominated for at last years Chapman Tripp Awards?
Congratulations to Chelsea Adams, who won a double pass to the opening night of Katydid. Let me know if you need a date...
