Student Exhibition All Squared Up

Student Exhibition All Squared Up

The Design and Arts College of New Zealand’s (D&A) Interior Design department are currently setting up for their graduating exhibition, ‘All Squared Up’. The exhibition opens on Tuesday 10 August at 5.30pm. Please find your invitation below.

Students have chosen three projects to exhibit from the last two years of study as well as personal projects. The exhibition will be on display in the ground floor gallery space at the college and will show a mixture of residential and commercial designs.

A large variety of assignments will be exhibited including live briefs from House of Travel, GAS Jeans and a joint project with Architectural Design students. The exhibition will also showcase furniture design including some full scale models. Students were to create a statement piece of furniture that incorporated storage into its design. One student has entered their design into the DINZ Best Awards.
“Live briefs are very important for students as it gets them ready for the industry so they know what to expect when they graduate. Students are given briefs from real clients and they are required to go out and do site visits, discuss their designs and receive feedback from staff, and meet strict deadlines” says Melanie Arnold, Interior Design Programme Coordinator.

D&A prides itself in its close relationship with the industry which also includes an Industry Advisory Group. One such relationship is that which it holds with Dulux.
“Colour is a huge part of interior design, so it is great that D&A holds such a strong relationship with a reputable brand such as Dulux. In All Squared Up, each student has chosen a colour from the 2010 ‘Dulux Colour Forecast’ and have incorporated this into their exhibition” says Arnold.

D&A’s Diploma of Interior Design is a two year, industry focused Diploma. Students have gone on to work as residential or commercial interior designers, product designers, draughtsperson or renderers, visual merchandising designers, showroom assistants, colour merchandise consultants and more.
“D&A stands out because it allows students to really explore their creative side. Students are taught by industry professionals, each brings their own set of skills and knowledge to the college which gives students a unique learning opportunity” says Arnold.

All Squared Up is open to the public and will be on display in D&A’s Ground Floor Gallery Space at 116 Worcester St, Christchurch. Exhibition runs from opening night 10 August through to 10 September, 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday.
