Plunket celebrates dads in New Zealand

Plunket is celebrating dads in New Zealand for the important role they play in children’s lives.

National Parenting and Community Development Manager Claire Rumble says Plunket has a real awareness of including fathers in the family and has been working to do so with what it offers for years now.

“Fathers play differently with children than other family members do, and children become more secure and curious about the world when they get time with their dads. And we are all aiming for happy children, happy families and happy communities.”

Plunket offers a Dads for Dads parenting education programme in eight centres, helps organise support groups for fathers where there is demand, and provides tailored resources and programmes for fathers.

Plunket is also welcoming the launch of Being a Great Dad for Dummies, in stores this week. The book was written by DIYFather.com directors Stefan Korn, Scott Lancaster and Eric Mooij.

Plunket CEO Jenny Prince wrote the book’s forward and comments that no parent has a manual to help with the most challenging and rewarding job in the world but having the right tools is a great start.
This year Plunket and the All Blacks are celebrating Father’s Day with a fun-filled free family afternoon at the TSB Arena.
Kicking off at 1pm and running through until 5pm on Monday August 30, the event will have fun activities for all ages including the All Blacks putting kids through their paces, a bouncy castle, a police dog display, a chance to meet children’s book character The Gruffalo, and to challenge Levi, the Mitre 10 Mega Man.
