International rugby will meet city festival when the All Blacks play the Wallabies for the Bledisloe Cup next weekend.
Karine Legeay-Fisher, Vbase General Manager, Hosting at Vbase, manager of AMI Stadium, says the Bledisloe Cup match is
an international event with thousands of national and international visitors here for the weekend.
“Christchurch will get a taste of how the city will feel next year when the Rugby World Cup is here,” she says. “We see
this as a great opportunity to test and trial some of the Rugby World Cup initiatives, as this will be the largest scale
international event at AMI Stadium between now and then.
“Christchurch City Council’s festival in Cathedral Square will begin at 5pm, with entertainment and giveaways to help
get the gathered fans in the mood. The Council’s four city carparks will be free until the next morning, so we hope
people will take the opportunity to join our version of “The Amazing Race” when Phil Keoghan leads them all along Rugby
Road to AMI Stadium.”
Karine says rugby fans joining the Rugby Road walk will arrive at the stadium in good time for the game, which she says
will help them have a great time at what promises to be a great event.
“It will be important for everyone going to the game to get to AMI Stadium early, especially if they want to see Dragon
start at 6.45pm,” she says. “Dragon is a well-known band and we know its performance will be exciting, so we hope rugby
fans make the most of it.”
The gates open at 5.30pm and arriving early will help rugby fans get smoothly through the security required for an
international event, though Karine has a few tips.
“It will help everyone if each person goes to the gate indicated on their ticket and has only his or her single ticket,
so the scanning is quick and easy,” she says. “It would also speed things up if fans take as little as possible, because
we will have to search bags and bulky jackets, to ensure we are doing our best to keep everyone safe.
“We are keen to help all our guests have a great time. We’ll have plenty of hosts at the venue to assist rugby fans and
make sure everyone has a wonderful Bledisloe Cup experience”
