The A to Z of the 2010 Speedshow

This year’s Speedshow, which opens at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland tomorrow (24 July), features so many cars, motorcycles, people, performance parts, race equipment and other items that it can get a little bewildering to take it all in. The Speedshow team has put together the following A to Z summary, which may help automotive and motorsport fans of all ages prepare for another fantastic Speedshow.

A is for Aprilia’s very special RSV4 superbike and the Auckland Car Club which helps keen fans get into motorsport.

B is for Bentley and its new super grand touring saloon, the 505 bhp Mulsanne, and the beautiful 1925 Bugatti Type 35A race car. B is also for Bikers Gear, BMW, Blue Wing Honda, Brembo performance parts, and His Worship the Mayor of Auckland, Hon. John Banks unveiling two cars at Speedshow from 9:30 Saturday morning.

C is for the fantastic Castrol EDGE display zone, Chrysler and their stonking SRT8, the unique, classic Cotton Motorcycles and the Counties 4 Wheelers putting on 4WD trial demos in the Speedshow arena.

D is for the recently-released Ducati 1198 superbike which pumps DNA directly from Ducati’s world championship-winning race bikes through its coils and springs. D is also for D1NZ’s drift stars like Gaz Whiter, Jason Sellers, Daynom Templeman and Fanga Dan, and, at the other end of the historical scale, for New Zealand’s oldest Grand Prix car, the Darracq.

E is for Ezybuy Auctions which lends their name to Speedshow’s adrenaline-pumping live action arena and comfortable, relaxing lounge area. E is also for Formula E, the fastest indoor race karts in New Zealand with their own special Speedshow race track right inside Hall One at the Showgrounds – are you ready to race?

F is for the only Ferrari F430 Challenge in New Zealand and on show at Speedshow courtesy of Forza Works. F is also for Ford’s fantastic Focus RS, Flamecrusher, Fraser Cars and FW1 Fastwax.

G is for the Gold Coast 600, which features as the weekend’s top prize at the Speedshow Formula E race kart circuit, and for Get Routed’s unique take-your-own-bike-to-the-Isle-of-Man-TT packages.

H is for Headcase Designs’ stunning custom-painted helmets, Holden Special Vehicles, Holden Advanced Driving and Historic Racing Drivers magazine.
I is for the Indy 500 tour run by Iconic Motorsport Adventures.

J is for Johnny Mac and his new-look NZV8 Ford being unveiled at Speedshow, the helpful team at Jenners Worldwide Freight who helped bring Steve Millen’s awesome Nissan GTR to New Zealand just for this year’s show, and the only example of a Jaguar XJ220 in New Zealand.

K is for Kia’s special edition Koup, Kawasaki’s new KX250F motocross bike and the Kruzin Kidz hot rods which give the littlies a taste of the automotive action.
L is for LG’s stunning new 3D TVs which will be showing the world’s best motorsport in 3D all weekend. L is also for Leatt neck braces which sponsors enduro motocross champion Chris Birch who will be at the Leatt stand this weekend.
M is for the massive Meguiar’s Car Crazy Central display area and the hugely well-supported Meguiar’s Car Crazy Charity Cruises which arrive at Speedshow at 11 each morning. M is also for Gareth and Jo Morgan who join publishers Phantom House to launch their new motorcycle travel book, ‘Up The Andes’.

N is for Nissan, as in Steve Millen’s Nissan GTR and a great line-up of fresh, new Nissans, as well as NZ Autocar magazine, NZ4WD magazine and NAC Insurance which especially caters for high performance cars.

O is for Speedshow’s opening hours, which are 9am to 6pm on Saturday 24 July and 9am to 5pm on Sunday 25 July.

P is for Peugeot’s stunning new RCZ coupe, which represents a new look for the 200 year old French car maker, and Personalised Plates and custom-made hearing protection from Plugz 4 Lugz.

Q is for the many thousands of questions that Speedshow’s welcome desk staff will answer over the weekend. Yes, the next Ezybuy live action arena show is at 1pm. Here’s the show programme; the arena’s just outside.

R is for the outrageous Radical race car, Royal Enfield’s 2010 motorcycle line-up and Rev Head Apparel which sells clothing from West Coast Choppers, Sullen and Krome. R is also for Race Brakes, Race Cam Productions, Road and Traffic Education Centre and Route 16 die-cast models.

S is for Suzuki, which shows the new Kizashi sedan fitted, with a special after-market body kit, alongside other Suzuki cars and motorcycles, as well as for Sunbeam, a 12-litre masterpiece of restoration. S is also for Superchips, Star Touring Cars, Segway and the mighty Stillen Ford GT – see it before it heads back to Steve Millen’s US workshop.

T is for TengTools celebrating their 25th birthday with two fantastic prize draws for a $4,999 tool kit and a $1,000 radio-controlled replica car of Mad Mike Whiddett’s RX7, as well as the Dunlop Targa, Techbooks, The Gearbox Factory and some special edition Triumph motorcycles.

U is for utes as in the Wildcard Entertainment V8 utes and their performances in the Ezybuy live action arena alongside the mega skills of trials bike champion Matt Foster, the dynamic Mini Racing Challenge and super-charged, super exciting Castrol Edge Nitro Dragster start-ups. U is also the University of Auckland Formula SAE engineering challenge.

V is for V8 of course, starting with the NZV8s. As well as two-time NZV8 champ Johnny Mac, see Angus Fogg and the LG Ford and Andrew Anderson who’s unveiling a new-look ITM Holden this weekend. Check out the V8 Supercar simulators and the fabulous James D V8 trikes. V is also for Victory Motorcycles which shows the new Cross Roads and Cross Country models this year.

W is for women-only car club Wheels and Heels – they put on some great events. W is also for Wheelfixit alloy wheel repairs, Weber carburettors and Wold Airbrushing.
X is for the ultra lightweight, ultra cool X-Bow two-seater from KTM.
Y is for the whole year fans will have to wait to see a fantastic line-up of performance cars and bikes like this again with the next Speedshow scheduled for July 2011.

Z is for the big pile is of ZZZZs the Speedshow team will be stacking after another fantastic show thanks to all the dedicated exhibitors, p
articipants and fans, and dreaming about what to feature at Speedshow in 2011.
