The Remarks gears up for a Slopestyle spectacular

New snow has arrived just in time for the first competition of the Tararua Real Iced Coffee (TRIC) Slopestyle Series at The Remarkables this Saturday (July 24).

Now in its twelfth year, the freestyle series for skiers and boarders is set to kick off in the Dirty Dog Terrain Park, with the following three events taking place on August 14, September 4 and September 18.

Ski Area Manager Ross Lawrence said the event created a great atmosphere on the mountain for competitors and spectators alike, and that this week’s new snow ensured perfect conditions for the day.

“The Slopestyle Series is an excellent competition as the series format enables skiers and riders to chart their own development and progress throughout the season,” he said.

“It gives the younger guys a chance to better themselves and see where they stack up alongside their peers and more experienced riders and skiers, along with support from the Parklife team who are also involved in the events.

“Competitors come from all over the region to compete and with live music and an MC, The Remarks is guaranteed to get pretty lively.

“The Dirty Dog Terrain Park has the best conditions we’ve had all season with Tuesday’s new snow and continued snow making throughout the park it is looking tops for the series and general everyday patronage.”

The entry fee of $25 will be pooled for cash prizes each session, with an overall prize awarded following the final session on September 18. There are separate classes for Open Men and Women, and Junior Men and Women in both ski and snowboard, and there will be spot prizes for lucky skiers and boarders throughout the series.

Registration is held each day from 8.30am to 10am at Guest Services, with competition starting at 11am. Entry fee is $25 with a $20 bib deposit. Helmets are mandatory for all competitors.
