Postie supports bra world record attempt

Postie supports GirlGuiding NZ’s bra world record attempt

Clothing store Postie has recently come on board to support GirlGuiding New Zealand’s campaign to break the Guinness world record for the longest bra chain by collecting bras at its stores nationwide.

With 79 stores, located from Kaitaia to Invercargill, Postie stores will be the collection points for bras throughout New Zealand.

“We felt this was a great way of helping GirlGuiding NZ to achieve their world record attempt while also playing a part in spreading the word about breast cancer and its effect on so many New Zealanders,” said David Primus, General Manager, Postie.

Postie are proud to offer a $5 discount off the purchase of a new bra with each bra donated to the Bra Chain. Check out your local Postie store for more information.

“This is one way we can help Girl Guides to collect as many bras as possible” says David Primus.

“We are thrilled that Postie have come on board, providing us with so many collection points all over the country”, says Ruth Teasdale, Chief Executive, GirlGuiding NZ. “This will make it much easier for people to support us by donating their bras.”

In 2009 there were well over two million females in New Zealand. If only 200,000 females donated one bra each, the world record for the longest bra chain would be smashed and GirlGuiding NZ would be able to successfully celebrate raising awareness of breast cancer, says Ruth Teasdale.

Bras are being collected in all shapes and sizes, and in any condition, to break the Guinness world record by November currently held by Australia (166,000 bras).

“The highest quality bras will be sent to women in Africa, Haiti, the Pacific Islands or other countries as a way of giving back to women and girls overseas,” says Ruth Teasdale.

Over 15,000 bras are currently sitting in a Dargaville kumara shed and many more around GirlGuiding NZ’s offices and units waiting to be delivered. Some have come from overseas and many are brand new.
