MasterCard All Blacks Roadshow back for third year
MasterCard All Blacks Roadshow back for a third year
See the All Blacks as you’ve never seen them before… in Waipu
Waipu, 6 July 2010, The All Blacks probably weren’t expecting the Caber Toss to be a part of their training schedule this year, but that’s exactly what some of the current All Black squad will be competing in when they take on the local residents of Waipu at the MasterCard All Blacks Roadshow.
Now in its third year, the MasterCard All Blacks Roadshow hosts a series of community events where local fans can get up close and personal with some of the current All Blacks and Rugby Legend, Buck Shelford, by competing in rugby challenges including; catching, try-scoring, kicking, passing and lineout skills.
Past Roadshows have seen members of the All Blacks squad and Buck visit 24 of New Zealand’s cities and towns competing against the fans in the rugby challenges. However, in 2010 the Roadshow will visit six New Zealand towns famous in their own right for some rather unique activities.
In Waipu this unique activity is the Caber Toss, and on Sunday July 11 at Caledonian Park, local residents will be showcasing their Caber Tossing skills when they challenge the All Blacks.
All Black Legend, Buck Shelford, says he’s once again delighted to be a part of the MasterCard All Blacks Roadshow.
“The new challenges bring another dimension to the Roadshow, now it will be even more entertaining for the fans.”
Pat Hellier, who has won the New Zealand Highland Heavyweight Championships the last 14-years in a row, is looking forward to taking on the All Blacks in the local challenge, caber toss.
“The key to the caber toss is to remain balanced, and focused. The up-most control is needed in order to make an accurate toss.
“It takes a combination of strength and skill; I hope the All Blacks have been practicing”
Stuart McKinlay, MasterCard New Zealand Country Manager says this is an exciting event for everyone involved.
“The MasterCard All Blacks Roadshow is a great reminder of what the All Blacks mean to our communities
“To be able to bring our national heroes up close and personal with some of their biggest fans is such a pleasure.
“We can’t wait to see the local residents take on the All Blacks and we’re eagerly anticipating the outcome – let’s hope they go easy on them… and by “they” I mean the residents.”
The All Blacks MasterCard Roadshow will also be visiting Tokoroa, Taihape, Reefton, Akaroa and Naseby where the local residents will take on the All Blacks in Wood Sawing, Gumboot Throwing, Coal Shovelling, Waiter Racing and Curling. See details below.
