Youth Choir Set To Dazzle Kiwi Audiences

World Renowned Youth Choir Set To Dazzle Kiwi Audiences

Auckland, New Zealand (July 2010) - Aucklanders will experience first hand this month the power of the only children’s choir invited to perform at the hand-over ceremony of Hong Kong to China.

Winning the hearts of audiences and critics alike at music festivals worldwide, the Yip’s Children’s Choir, from Hong Kong, will perform one public concert only in Auckland at Selwyn College Theatre on Tuesday 20 July.

For this occasion, 50 members, aged 11 to 17, have been especially chosen to perform in New Zealand. Yip’s Children’s Choir has over 800 members aged 5 to 17. A cultural ambassador and unique treasure for Hong Kong, the Choir was founded in 1983 by Dr. Yip Wai-hong, an expert in the field of children’s music education.

Presented by the New Zealand Chinese Association (NZCA) Auckland, the repertoire for this tour features popular numbers from Broadway musicals, Maori songs, folk songs from Yunnan province in China in addition to solo works and dance performances.

“We are delighted to be presenting a world class choir to an Auckland audience. Yip’s Children’s Choir is revered for its consummate musicianship and acknowledged as a superb training ground for young voices,” says Kai Luey, Chairman of the New Zealand Chinese Association Auckland.

Since its inception in 1984, the Choir has toured over 38 countries in six continents, including those as far reaching as Africa, Russia and South America. Not a stranger to famous venues, it has been invited to perform at the world’s most beloved music centres: Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, New York; Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington D.C.; Davies Symphony Hall, San Francisco; Canada; Rachmaninoff Hall of Moscow Conservatory of Music, Russia; the Chopin Institute of Music in Warsaw, Poland; St. Martin in-the-Fields in London, United Kingdom.

Proudly supported by Chinese Express, 360 Degrees, 3A, Skykiwi, Nekta, Fresher Foods.
