Meander along the Mississippi
The Mississippi River runs through 10 American states beginning in the humble north woods of Minnesota and runs through to the Gulf of Mexico.
And what better way to see this magnificent river, than from the river itself? Cruise West, global leader in small ship explorations, is offering two new river voyages, from March 2011.
One trip from New Orleans to Memphis meanders along the Mississippi River through the Deep South, so steeped in civil war history. Along the way passengers will glimpse magnificent antebellum mansions, historic plantations, lush gardens and poignant civil war monuments.
The other trip sails from Memphis to Nashville – a seven night excursion further up river – and takes in history of a musical kind, by beginning and ending with two hotbeds of American music: Memphis, the home of the King himself, and Nashville, the seat of country music. Guests will follow the Mississippi north of Cairo, at the confluence of the Ohio River. They will cruise on up river to the Tennessee and the narrow Cumberland River.
Between these two itineraries, guests may choose from eight departure dates with prices starting at NZ$5222 per person, twin share. The New Orleans to Memphis dates include March 19, April 9*, April 16 and May 7, 2011. (Reverse trip dates are marked with asterisk).
The Memphis to Nashville dates include March 26 and April 2*, 23, 30*, 2011. Guests can save US$600 per person by paying in full by July 30, 2010.
