Tempo Strides Into a Vibrant Month of Dance
In its seventh year, Tempo Dance Festival presents a dynamic month of dance in 2010.
From mid September to late October in venues across Auckland, Tempo offers a stunning mix of new programmes and old favorites with something for everyone in a thrilling festival packed with dance.
TAPAC in Western Springs will again host the core Festival season from 29 September to 10 October with a diverse programme of performances, talks and films. From the popular The Kids Show to the new showcase Y Chromozone - an all male programme featuring dancers from Black Grace, Royal New Zealand Ballet and TMC (That Mean Crew) and Taiaroa Royal and Taane Mete, the TAPAC Season offers events for everyone – from the very young to the young at heart.
Alongside the hugely successful Fresh Cuts and Prime Cuts, some of New Zealand’s most innovative and leading dance artists including Backlit Productions, Footnote Dance Company, Atamira Dance Collective and Southern Lights from Christchurch will feature in 2010.
Visual arts featuring dance are an important part of this year’s Festival. Forward Motion film festival from the UK, Frozen in Time, a photographic exhibition from Germany, a documentary on the life and work of Pina Bausch and Close Up Te Waka Huia - photographic images by Kathrin Simon, will be shown throughout September and October.
The Festival is delighted to feature international artists ladoCiego - a contemporary Argentinean company presenting tango with a twist, Complexions, a New York contemporary ballet company and widely acclaimed new Australian choreographer, Tim Podesta.
With dance events ranging from free to full price, hip hop to ballet and for all ages, whatever your passion - Tempo Dance Festival 2010 has something for you.
“We are genuinely thrilled to be able to offer such a vibrant and diverse dance festival to the people of Auckland in 2010......”
