The five outstanding fashion winners were chosen by the public from 15 finalists that were posted on Facebook, each displaying four photos of their work and 100 words on why they should win the competition.
“The level of work that has been received in the competition is astounding and a credit to the creativity and dedication of today’s young fashionistas. The five winners are entirely worthy of their wins and represent the future of the New Zealand fashion industry. The finalists were drilled down from close to 170 entries so these individuals have done extremely well,” says Pieter Stewart Managing Director NZFW.
The talented winners have secured their places on the dream team and will be flown to Auckland firstly to work on the shoot in early July, then again during September to attend Fashion Week. During their stays in Auckland the winners will be hosted at inner city hotel The Quadrant.
Brand Manager Myken Stewart has been leading the New Talent project from its inception and is thrilled with the opportunities that it’s creating for the winners, sponsors and industry alike.
“This project is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the winners to create a piece of fashion history and work with some of the industry’s leading fashion figures in the ultimate dream team. It’s also an opportunity for our sponsors to be part of a beautiful and meaningful fashion campaign.
Working on this project will allow these five up and comers to prove themselves in a high pressure fashion environment and propel them into the fashion industry,” she says.
During the big week of fashion the five winners will also be called on to put together the NEW GENERATION show. This will see models Claire Laredo and Hunter McLeod strutting their stuff on the runway, while Asrita Singh, Alison Lewis and Vladmir Moiseev will work backstage with the beauty and styling teams.
The NEW TALENT mentors include renowned hair stylist Paul Serville, world leading professional makeup brand M.A.C Cosmetics and their Senior Make-up Artist Amber D, the creative team at advertising agency Colenso, photographer Adam Custins and Fashion Stylist Chris Lorimer who has styled the last three ANZFW billboard campaigns.
