The Remarkables all set to open
The Remarkables all set to open – for the 25th time!
Staff are working towards an epic day this
Saturday (June 19) as The Remarkables gears up to open for
its 25th winter sports season.
With a snow base of 65cms on the lower mountain and 85cms at the top it’s likely ALL terrain will be open from day one, including Homeward Run and the terrain parks.
Ski Area Manager, Ross Lawrence said that he expects conditions to continue to improve this week in the lead up to season’s launch.
“We are particularly excited that the whole mountain will be accessible to skiers and boarders from day one. This year marks 25 years at The Remarkables and we’re proud to say the ski area continues to improve year on year”.
Mr Lawrence also reminded those heading to the mountain that day lift pass holders are able to make use of the free bus transfer services from the Queenstown Snow Centre and season pass holders can access mountain transport for just $5 a return trip throughout the season, from any one of the Green Line designated pick-up/ drop-off points around town.
“While we have made an extra effort this year in improving the access road, we really encourage people to make use of our free - or very cheap – transport system as we have another three brand new 4x4 buses added to the fleet” said Mr Lawrence.
Other improvements include the rebuilding of the Parklife Halfpipe, new features for all three terrain parks, a series of activity trails for children, and a base building upgrade that includes new dining facilities, a new Rastus Burn Coffee Bar, and a new bouncy castle for the crèche.
Skiers and riders will also be able to try their mypass for the very first time at The Remarkables. The mypass is the brand new NZSki Radio Frequency (RF) ticketing system that has been launched across all NZSki ski fields this season.
“Pass holders have already started using their mypass at Coronet Peak and Mt Hutt, now it’s our turn”, said Mr Lawrence
“Skiers and boarders will be hopping on the chairlifts with a minimum of fuss”.
Chairlifts will open at 9am on Saturday morning, weather permitting and staff will be ready and waiting with bubbles to welcome the 25th winter season at The Remarkables.
