Is Blood Thicker Than Water?
It’s a warm night. Three hundred thousand dollars is missing from the gang safe. Aroha lies badly beaten in hospital while her dad and gang leader uncle have a few drinks and a game of cards. The tension and stakes are rising, and the cops are on their way.
Playmarket is proud to present Strong Hands by Michael Rewiri-Thorson as the next in the Metro Playreading Series. Celebrated actors William Davis (Nga Manurere, Go Girls) and Kirk Torrance (Outrageous Fortune, Flintlock Musket) will bring to life this new work directed by James Wilson (Massive Company).
Michael Rewiri-Thorsen is not a new
comer to the arts world. It’s a family affair - actor,
comic, presenter and blogger, son of poet Keith Thorsen and
artist Kura Te Waru-Rewiri and nephew to
playwright/actor/director William Davis, it’s not
surprising Michael turned his hand to writing for theatre.
Rewiri-Thorsen attended the Playmarket 2009 Matariki
Playwrights' Hui where Jenni Heka, Playmarket Maori &
Pacific Island Playwright Coordinator, encouraged his
writing for the stage. Since then Rewiri-Thorsen has been
selected as the 2010 Maori playwright for development in
Auckland. He has worked with script advisor Albert Belz and
director James Wilson on Strong Hands and is
pleased to present this work in development.
