Ask Me – You might be surprised!
Ask Me! – You might be surprised! – He Taonga Te Pātai
Library Week -16 - 22 August 2009 is a week long celebration of libraries and librarianship in New Zealand taking place in public, school, tertiary, special, law and government libraries across New Zealand.
Library Week is a chance to promote libraries and librarians to the public and the event provides New Zealand libraries with a platform to highlight and celebrate the many benefits and opportunities libraries offer the community.
We are very excited to announce Ask Me – You might be surprised! – He Taonga Te Pātai as the theme for Library Week 2010. The key message for the theme reflects librarians not just as people who issue books, shelve novels and tell you to "hush" when you have been too noisy but as trained information professionals who have a world of knowledge and experience at their fingertips. All you need do is - ask!
The Te Reo translation means "to ask is precious" which signifies the importance of teaching, listening and learning.
Library Week aims to attract more people to libraries, and into the librarian profession, this year and with the very generous support of The Association of Public Library Managers (APLM) we will be taking Library Week to the airwaves with a Radio Campaign during the week!
Library Week’s signature event ‘NZ’s Biggest Storytime’ will be held on Wednesday 18th August at 10.30am.
Other Library Week events from previous years on the agenda include Living Heritage Day, Living Libraries and a number of fantastic online competitions appealing to all ages.
