MOTAT Reaches Visitor Milestone
New Zealand’s largest transport
and technology Museum, MOTAT, celebrated a significant
milestone this week welcoming its 250,000th visitor since 1
July 2009, a record number within a single financial
year.
This achievement follows a huge attendance during the month of May with more than 35,000 visitors coming through the gates, representing the largest number of monthly visitors to MOTAT in its history.
1 June was extra special for Glen Eden resident, Kavarm Perese-Smith, who was awarded the title of 250,000th visitor on his third birthday.
“Kavarm loves trains and cars so we thought MOTAT was the perfect place to come for his birthday. He even got a special gift for being the 250,000th visitor which just made his day,” said Kavarm’s father Mr Bellamy Smith.
In honour of the achievement, MOTAT gifted the family with a MOTAT Mates annual family pass, a certificate marking the milestone and a $100 voucher to spend at the MOTAT gift shop.
MOTAT Director Jeremy Hubbard said that the day was an incredible celebration for MOTAT.
“To reach this number of visitors in such a short amount of time since we started receiving funding from the seven Auckland Councils, really demonstrates the commitment we have to providing a quality, educational and entertaining experience that encourages people of all ages to have fun and learn together,” said Mr Hubbard.
MOTAT, open since 1964, is an interactive museum focusing on offering visitors from around the country and abroad, a fun, visually stimulating, and educational experience based around New Zealand’s transport, technology and social history.
