Speedshow offers interactive action and entertainment
Motoring and motorsport enthusiasts can get into some high speed action of their own at Speedshow in July, with a special indoor activity zone headlined by the fastest indoor karts in New Zealand.
Speedshow’s developer and organiser Keith Sharp has dedicated half of one hall at the ASB Showgrounds to creating a special action and entertainment area.
“There are so many fantastic cars to see and interesting people to talk to at Speedshow, we know people can spend virtually the whole day at the show,” says Sharp. “A fun, new dimension to Speedshow is this indoor interactive leisure area where you can race one of the quick Formula E indoor race karts, enjoy a drink in the Ezybuy sports bar, and listen while Radio Sport interviews various Speedshow guests and personalities live on-air direct from Speedshow.”
Formula E owner Phil Buckley says New Zealand’s fastest indoor karts offer a fantastic racing experience.
“Their high torque electric motors give instant throttle response – people used to driving petrol-driven karts will be impressed with the responsiveness of the electric motors which make a lot less noise and obviously produce no fumes,” says Buckley who runs the Formula E Indoor Raceway near Auckland’s airport.
“The set-up at Speedshow offers both experienced and inexperienced kart racers a great opportunity for some high speed action of their own, all inside Speedshow. A $10 entry fee gives show visitors the chance to drive the Italian-built karts around a challenging circuit and to race for prizes for the best times of the hour, the day and the show. Because they are so clean, no extra clothing is required, and helmets will be provided by Formula E.”
Buckley adds: “Children aged fourteen years and over, as long as they are at least 140cm (4’ 6”) tall, can also race as long as a parent or guardian signs our waiver form. Make sure you to come through into hall one and have a go in a Formula E race kart.”
Sharp says the Ezybuy lounge area offers show visitors the chance to sit, relax and soak up the atmosphere.
“Comfortable seating, hot and cold drinks, motorsport on a wide-screen TV – with Ezybuy Car Auctions’ help, we’ve made a pleasant space to take a little time to rest and simply enjoy the great Speedshow vibe.”
Radio Sport and their expert commentators again join the Speedshow team, creating a live interview area in hall one.
“Speedshow visitors can be right in on the action as Radio Sport announcers, like WRC fan Miles Davis and sports know-it-all Kent Johns, broadcast and interview special guests live from Speedshow,” says Sharp.
“The 2010 edition of Speedshow is shaping up to be another tremendous event. Our exhibitor line-up is outstanding – so many of New Zealand’s best suppliers for all kinds of performance cars, accessories and specialist motorsport providers – truly, the line-up has to be seen to be believed.
“With enjoyable interactive opportunities like the Formula E kart racing and being able to have a go at airbrushing with Meguiar’s airbrushing expert Dean Lovich, Speedshow fans have masses of great things to see and do at this year’s show. We look forward to seeing you there over the weekend of 24 and 25 July. Doors open at 9am both days with tickets from Ticketek or at the gate.”
