Who's Laughing Last?

We've had crazy times through the Comedy Festival but by the sounds of it none will be more crazy than The Giant Head - not only crazy, but with Shortland Street stars! Oh me oh my. I wonder how nuts they can go...

All the Improv Divas from WIT (the Wellington Improv Troupe) are also joining us this week to run rampant with spontaneous tales to tickle your funny bone; and Dave Wiggins, clean comedian extraordinaire, who is proving so popular we've put on a 4.30pm show of Googling God on Saturday! What's "clean comedy" you ask? Take out the swear words and risque times and you've got it in one...

We've got the first of two Music shows coming up next week, with Rosy Tin Teacaddy's Billy Earl and Betty Grey taking us on a roadtrip in Coffee Cups & A Porridge Pot at Frying Pan Lake, which I think goes perfectly with the quirky, dark Tea For Toot. Very hot drink themed next week...

presented by WIT

Opens tomorrow! Until Saturday 15th May @ 6.30PM

tickets $16 full / $13 concession & groups 8+

The Improv Divas are back! NZ's leading ladies of improv are ready to rock the capital with an all new, all improvised show in 2010's International Comedy Festival.

"A welcome balance where the female energy is on a slow burn that really delivers" - Patrick Davies, Theatreview.

Produced and performed by an all-female ensemble cast from Wellington Improvisation Troupe (WIT), The Improv Divas will lead you through an hour of humour, honesty and hilarity, telling stories made up on the spot based on audience suggestion and whatever the ever-present wind blows in.

This year's cast are a travelled and acclaimed bunch. Returning to the Divas stage are: Christine Brooks, creative director of WIT, recently seen in WIT's ever-popular soap, The Young and the Witless and NZ Fringe show Gods and Heroes; Merrilee McCoy, last seen presenting and performing in NZ's international Improv Festival and WIT's acclaimed season of The Wishing Tree, and Jen O'Sullivan who last year trained and performed with the Spontaneity Shop, a London-based improv company. As for the new additions to Improv Divas, improvisor/stand up Chelsea Hughes hails from Texas, USA, and while Karen Anslow might be their most local talent, what a talent she is, co-creating the "especially excellent homegrown work" Becoming the Courtesan in 2009.

The Giant Face

Opens tomorrow! Until Saturday 15th May @ 9.30PM

tickets $18 full / $13 concession / $16 groups 10+

The Giant Face is the most impressive work from Medlock and Musgrove to date and it proves, once again, that satire is alive and well in New Zealand Thank god. - Karyn Cushen, Theatreview

What would you do for the role of a lifetime?

Harry McNaughton (Gerald off Shortland Street) is expanding his horizons – his eye is on the wily, wild, exciting industry of feature films… Harry is auditioning for Peter Jackson (Natalie Medlock) and James Cameron’s (Dan Musgrove) ‘THE LEGEND OF THE GIANT FACE,’ bigger than AVATAR, LOTR and STAR WARS… But Peter and James agree that there must be special contractual obligations for a role that will, no doubt, catapult Harry McNaughty into super-stardom. Not since Martin Henderson will a Shortland Street star be so well known… but at what price?

Peppered with dittys, dirtys and a mad-cap array of new amusing characters, plus Harry’s competition: Craig Hall, Craig Parker, Danielle Cormack, Madeleine Sami, Robbie Magasiva and Antonia Prebble. The Giant Face is coming.

Where else but BATS can you experience the underbelly of the entertainment industry accompanied by a Greek chorus of amusement? The Giant Face will titillate, terrify and tune in to your laughing bone.
