Experience of a lifetime up for grabs

HANDMADE tutus and the ballet experience of a lifetime are up for grabs in a fundraising auction for the Royal New Zealand Ballet next month.

The auction will be part of High Tea and Highlights; An afternoon with the Royal New Zealand Ballet at the Grand Tearoom of the Heritage Hotel, Auckland on Sunday 16 May.

The RNZB’s outgoing artistic director Gary Harris will speak at the event. After nine years in the job, Gary has plenty of engaging stories and memories from his time with company.

All guests will enjoy High Tea complete with a glass of bubbles on arrival, a complimentary goodie bag valued at over $140, including an A-res ticket to the Meridian Season of Carmen and items from the Snowberry skincare range.

A highlight of the event will be the auction of an “opportunity of a lifetime” for a budding ballerina. The winner will spend an afternoon with the RNZB, watch the RNZB dancers rehearse on stage, learn steps from The Nutcracker, meet dancers and get a glimpse behind-the-scenes during a backstage tour of the theatre. The successful bidder will also receive two Premium tickets to a performance of The Nutcracker. Suitable for a child aged 9 to 14, this is the first time the RNZB have offered an experience of this kind at a fundraising auction.

Other auction items include: an original Gary Harris costume design sketch from Don Quixote 2008, two miniature tutus handmade by the RNZB wardrobe department and a full size tutu handmade by the RNZB wardrobe department.

Tickets are $70 and bookings can be made by calling Kat Sprowell, 04 381 9006 or emailing kat@nzballet.org.nz. Ticket numbers are strictly limited.

Tickets booked before April 30 go in the draw to win a Snowberry skincare set, valued at $568
