CHARTFEST 2010 Stage Sponsors Announced

Christchurch Town Hall Complex - Friday 28 May 2010

CPIT and CHART are proud to present CHARTFEST 2010, Christchurch’s multi stage indoor NZ Music Month live music extravaganza being held on Friday May 28th in the Christchurch Town Hall Complex from 1pm.

STAGE SPONSORS ANNOUNCED

CHARTFEST 2010 is delighted to announce the return of CPIT as principal sponsor of Christchurch’s annual NZ Music Month Festival and Expo. CPIT has an extensive and highly reputable Creative Industries Faculty encompassing creative programmes under one portfolio including the Schools of Art & Design, Architectural Studies, Performing Arts and the New Zealand Broadcasting School. “As the leading educational institution for Creative Industries in the South Island, CPIT is very excited to be CHARTFEST 2010's naming sponsor,” says Dr. Jane Gregg, Dean of CPIT’s Creative Industries Faculty.

CPIT recognises CHART as the driving force behind Canterbury’s music industry, and is pleased to be a sponsor of the organisation’s annual CHARTFEST event as part of NZ Music Month.

“We believe that CHART does an incredible job in providing support to the local contemporary music community,” says Gregg. “We also feel that both CHART and CPIT share a common goal, which is in assisting creative young people, in this case, musicians, to develop sustainable careers in the fields they are passionate about. It just makes so much sense for us to work closely with CHART on the CHARTFEST event and we are thrilled to return as principal sponsor.”

LINEUP ANNOUNCEMENTS

Christchurch’s biggest party features one of the strongest line-ups ever, keeping with the tradition of presenting dynamic emerging acts as well as some of the South Island’s most significant artists across five stages showcasing some beautifully diverse musical styles.

Flying Nun legends The Verlaines headline CHARTFEST 2010 and join a host of incredible South Island spawned talent on the CPIT ZM 91.3 Main Stage in the James Hay Theatre. Don’t miss the infectious melodies of the Dictaphone Blues, the duelling guitar pop/rock of MTV Kickstart winners Clap Clap Riot, and fresh from supporting Fleetwood Mac, the foot-stomping rockabilly folk-blues of The Eastern. Also performing are rising stars of NZ alt-country surf-rock The Unfaithful Ways, and the School Band Team Search winners (announced 19 May).

Some of the South Island’s most intense and energetic indie bands feature on the RDU 98.5FM Greenhorn Stage… unforgettable, youthful, adrenalin-fuelled mayhem. Headlining are the unrelenting, uncompromising NME favourites Die! Die! Die! The Limes Room is set to have its roof lifted with the furious punk of The Transistors, the indie pop of RoundUp winners Sleepy Age and the slamming melodic energy of Anthesiac (who also feature on the CHARTDisc Vol. 3 release out May 1st).

Subtler tastes will be satisfied by the Electronic Stage with Massive and KiwiFm 102.5 bringing the outdoor party inside in the Cambridge Room led by the soothing future-soul beats of The Electric Wire Hustle Soundsystem with Benny Tones, the cathartic electro of the global outdoor festival crusader Tom Cosm, Decknology winner Marty J and a spontaneous live set from Philter. Celebrate urban styles next door on the MAINZ TahuFM 90.5 City Roots Stage led by the skanking reggae dub of Salmonella Dub protégé’s Soulsystem, the smooth r’n’b sound of Restoration, tru-skool hip hop from Harlequin Trax and a high energy hip hop dance demo from Swarm led by international hip hop and funk dancer Elly Hanssen.

Finally, relax on the Chill Stage presented by Licence To Chill and Volcano Radio 88.5FM to the soothing sounds of CHARTDISC Vol. 3 the downbeat chill edition and special live performances. Check out the new lounge funk of Switch Sanchez Nacoa, the neo-soul of Sacha Vee, the acoustic alt-country of The Easy Hearts and the Dub-Psy-Steppin-Prog-Tec-Minimal-Trance-Beat of Mr Squatch!
