The Circus is coming to town at ROAR! gallery

The Circus is coming to town at ROAR! gallery.

Lions leaping onto the backs of horses, sword swallowing and the characters who took refuge in the circus “hall of oddities” are the inspiration for Gypsy Blu’s multi-media show. This artist likes the romance and spectacle it afforded people, especially during the depression years and the trickery and exploitation it used to make money.

Colourful characters, travel and stories define Gypsy Blu’s work. Found objects like feather boas, photographs, jewellery give the 3D work a tactile, quirky and kitsch quality.

Surreal and psychedelic collages by Dunedin artist and electronic musician Peter Lewis complement this show.

And dancing skeletons, masks and cabaret girls continues this carnival theme with colourful etchings, woodcuts and prints from Whanganui’s Isabel Chapman.

This show promises to be a magical exhibition of circus and carnival art treasures.

ROAR! gallery is a vibrant gallery which aims to support and promote Outsider Art. We exhibit work by those artists who feel connected to an art making approach which is unique, honest, compelling and about a person’s total connection with their creativity. We're proud to bring you this thrilling combination of talent and awareness.

ROAR! Gallery is now on Facebook, become a fan to receive exhibition updates and invitations.
