47 Diamantes & Tommy Ill - Lets Get Pregnant

Electro-punk-pop-disco band 47 Diamantes formed last year by former Holiday With Friends members Kelvin Neal and Gemma Syme. The duo create a mix between French house, Brooklyn lo-fi and Hollywood Pop and the songs have an underlying theme of passion, pain and partying. Described as adding "a fresh, meaty slice of conviction and determination to the local music scene (Einstein Music Journal)” 47 Diamantes certainly don’t pussy foot around; They’re bringing the badass attitude back to indie dance music. So far the duo have played with international acts such as Hanway Troof and Dan Deacon and they’re currently working on their debut EP! “Once I challenged Tommy Ill to a rap battle. He busted out this amazing freestyle, then I told him I was just joking and didn’t want to play this game anymore (Matthew Crawley, Cheese on Toast).”

Wellington based hip hop artist Tommy Ill is more attuned to those who prefer ‘The Brunettes’ over ‘Smashproof. His songs range from upbeat 50’s style pop to blues based heartfelt raps about hangovers, phone bills and heartache. Mr. Ill has so far released three EP's; Toast and Tea Kettles (2007), Matchsticks (2008), Come Home Mr. Ill (2009) and currently he’s working on his soon to be released debut album. Live Tommy is a force to be reckoned with - often being piggybacked around the stage by his hype men, tackling audience members, climbing on furniture, and collapsing into a sweaty heap on the floor when it's all over. A Tommy show is never one to miss.
