Boy Now New Zealand’s #1 Comedy Of All Time
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – TUESDAY 20TH APRIL
Boy Now New Zealand’s #1 Comedy Of All Time
Just four weeks after release New Zealand film BOY has reached an incredible milestone - overtaking Sione’s Wedding to be the #1 comedy of all time for a New Zealand Film!
With a lifetime box office of $4,090,114, BOY has consistently held its position at #1 in the weekly box office charts since opening on March 25th.
Audiences across the country are flocking to this homegrown hit, which shows no signs of letting up after another increase this weekend of 16% on last weekend’s box office result.
BOY, written, directed and starring Taika Waititi is a hilarious and heartfelt coming-of-age story. Set on the rural East Coast during the 80’s, BOY tells the tale of Boy, Rocky and their inept wannabe gangster father Alamein. Inspired by Waititi’s Oscar-nominated Two Cars, One Night and his own childhood in Waihau Bay.
Taika Waititi commented today on the success “I'm terribly proud of this achievement. The audiences are proving there are still great New Zealand stories to tell, stories that are unique, stories about us, by us. It is encouraging to know we find ourselves funny and can appreciate New Zealand comedy.”
Released through Transmission Films on 54 screens nationwide, BOY has now widened to over 75 screens throughout the country due to popular demand.
