Woman’s Dream of Winning Lotto Really Does Comes True
A North Shore City woman has claimed a Lotto First Division prize of $500,000 after having a dream of winning the lottery, says NZ Lotteries’ Chief Executive, Todd McLeay.
The woman told NZ Lotteries her mother, who has since passed, came to her in her dream with a message of luck and new fortune and told her to buy a Lotto ticket.
“I didn’t even have breakfast, I just got up out of bed, went straight to the Lotto store and asked for the cheapest Lotto ticket!” the winner laughed.
The winner purchased a $6 Lotto Lucky Dip ticket from Valentines Stationers for the draw on Saturday 20 March.
When her husband checked the Lotto numbers the following day, they realised they’d won half a million dollars on the ticket.
“I didn’t quite believe it and it took him a while to convince me, we were completely blown away,” the woman said.
The couple sat on their $500,000 ticket for nearly a month and waited for a suitable time to visit Wellington with family to claim their prize.
“The ticket hasn’t left my side for the past few weeks, every time I’d leave the house I’d take it with me in my handbag and hold it tight!” the woman said.
The couple plan to share the money with their family and would like to plan an overseas trip in the future.
Meanwhile, Lotto staff at Valentines Stationers are relieved to hear the store’s missing ticket has been claimed.
“We were starting to think it was someone passing through town who hadn’t heard about the win, so it’s great to hear they are local winners,” a staff member said.
