Te Turerenga
Pierre Peeters Gallery would like to welcome you to view Te Turerenga, an exhibition featuring a series of oil paintings which warn about the imbalances in the marine ecosystem created by overfishing and contamination of our waters, by Carl Foster.
Te Turerenga is a development from last season’s Mystic River, taking its inspiration from an estuary located very close to where Carl was raised in his youth. Te Turerenga estuary is traditionally known to refer to the ‘mystical mysterious people of the Headlands’ and in Maori mythology these were regarded as the spirits that were known but never seen.
While the source of inspiration remains the same, the theme and mood revealed in this body of work takes a completely new and unexpected direction. Atmospheric landscapes now metamorphoses into water scenes which seem to ripple with the threat of overfishing. Carl’s accomplished abstract paintings also continue to feature in the exhibition.
Carl is a New Zealand born artist
who at the age of 25 has already produced a significant body of work with Te Turerenga now being his sixth exhibition with Pierre Peeters Gallery.
Carl has recently been selected for inclusion in the publication of the New Zealand Gallery Book which surveys some of the finest artists in the country. His works are held in private collections both in New Zealand and internationally.
