Thousands Flock to National Jazz Festival Downtown Carnival
Around 20,000 people enjoyed sunshine and jazz music at the National Jazz Festival’s Downtown Carnival today in Tauranga.
The carnival is a free event as part of the National Jazz Festival and continues on Sunday with four stages featuring a diverse range of jazz music styles.
Sunday also marks the first of the two-day TV3 Jazz Village at the Historic Village in Tauranga with more than 20 New Zealand and international bands and musicians performing on four stages alongside workshops, stalls and strolling bands. The TV3 Jazz Village was a major highlight of last year’s jazz festival and is expected to attract around 20,000 people per day.
The National Jazz Festival also includes two concerts by American jazz legend Dr John and the Lower 911 and a programme of music in the University of Waikato Jazz Club, along with the Jazz Steamtrain and Jazz Riverboat excursions.
