Duck hunters say ‘Thank you’
Wellington duck hunters, and the Wellington Fish & Game Council, acknowledge the goodwill and openness shown by the Port Nicolson Block Settlement Trust in reconsidering the ban on duck hunting on the Pencarrow Lakes.
“The Wellington fish & Game Council and our licenceholders say ‘Thank you’ to Trust Chairman Sir Ngatata Love and all members of the Trust for their goodwill and openness, and for the pragmatic solution announced yesterday,’ said Phil Teal, Manager, Wellington Fish & Game Council. “We remain keen to maintain an open dialogue, and to work towards meeting the aspirations of iwi, the interests of the wider public around conservation, and recreational hunting and fishing.”
“The Council also acknowledges the efforts of the Minister for Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations, Chris Finlayson in facilitating a resolution, and the contributions by United Future Leader, Peter Dunne.”
