Pasifika Festival Success Lands Debut Album at Number One
Straight off the back of last weekend’s Pasifika Festival, Dawn Raid and Universal Music's "Pasifika - The Collection" album debuted straight into the Number One spot in the Compilation Charts on the Official NZ Music Chart.
The inaugural CD was designed to be a reminder to all proud New Zealanders of the number of hit records produced by Pacific artists as well as to showcase the breadth of music styles that have evolved from the Pacific migration.
The brainchild of Dawn Raid co-founders Brotha D and Andy Murnane, Pasifika: The Collection has been three years in the planning and its Number One position on the charts is a testament to the vision behind the project.
"It's no secret that Pacific culture has had a huge influence on the landscape of local music, and we wanted to compile a perfect soundtrack to the Pacific sound. We've had this idea sitting in the background for some time and with the success of Pacific artists like OMC and Savage on the world stage and new comers like J Williamz hitting # 1 in the singles chart , we felt the timing was perfect." says Dawn Raid Co-Founder Brotha D
This limited edition collection includes more than 35 of the best Pacific artists and timeless hits from the past 50 years of Polynesian music including The Herbs, Te Vaka, Nesian Mystic, Scribe and Savage.
Festival director, Ole Maiava, says: In terms of all the firsts this year with the expanded Pasifika Festival programme, it is good to see that in year three of our five year strategic plan that we are managing to push the boundaries even further. The compilation going to number 1 is an affirmation that we are heading in the right direction. A big mahalo to all those that have contributed to the success of the festival and I look forward to an exciting future for this iconic event."
