A kick start into radio
Young people are invited to find their inner media star at Wellington Access Radio
Youth of today… Pollys, Grants and Kim Hills of tomorrow. Wellington Access Radio is reaching out to eager young people
with its latest workshop “Soundwavz” This one day workshop will show teens how things run behind the scenes of a radio station.
It will be a full day of hands on experience covering everything that goes on in a Community Access Radio Station.
Students will learn a bit about the history of radio along with interviewing techniques, audio editing and presenting On
Air.
The end product is a radio show where the entire contents of the Programme will be prepared by the young participants,
including the music, voice segments, news and interviews.
The workshop will be run by Wellington Access Radio Youth Coordinator Jess Krieg, who has been hired as part of the
Community Max Scheme to connect with Wellington youth and give them the best of everything Wellington Access Radio has
to offer.
Young people involved will come away with positive on the job experience and excellent knowledge of what it takes to
create the kinds of radio programmes they want to hear.
The Soundwavz Workshop is for 12-14 year olds and will be held on April 10th and 17th between 10am and 2pm. The cost is $50 each or
$25 with a Community Services Card.
