Bakers Delight raising dough for Starship

Bakers Delight raising dough for Starship

Bakers Delight is encouraging Kiwis to make their Hot Cross Bun purchase really count this Easter by helping raise valuable dough for the Starship Foundation on Saturday 20 March.

Bundraiser Day will see all 32 Bakers Delight bakeries across New Zealand donate $1 from every six-pack of Hot Cross Buns sold, to purchase essential medical equipment to help make a difference for babies in hospital this Easter.

The Bundraiser is expected to raise enough funds for three new Haprenden Neonatometers, an essential piece of equipment used to help accurately chart the growth of premature babies.

Dale Garton, Charge Nurse Manager of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), says because the hospital currently only has two Neonatometers available, proceeds from Bakers Delight’s Bundraiser will make a real difference.

“The majority of babies in our NICU are premature. Measuring their growth precisely allows us to determine how they’re doing and identify any growth issues as early as possible.”
Neonatometers are currently being used to help chart the growth of Auckland twins Amy and Ruby Davis. As a result of being born prematurely at 27 weeks, they’re currently being treated in the NICU.

Colleen Milne, general manager of Bakers Delight New Zealand, hopes customers will get behind the Bundraiser initiative.

“The Bundraiser offers people a chance to help us do something really special this Easter. Because it’s our busiest time of year, it’s the perfect time for us to give back to little Kiwis like Amy and Ruby who really need our support,” she says. “Our bakers will be baking fresh Hot Cross Buns throughout the day, so we encourage customers to buy a six-pack or donate in the collection tins on counters.”
