Viva La Comedy

Media Release: For Immediate Release

2010 NZ International Comedy Festival
23 April – 16 May

Viva La Comedy-The Launch Of A Comedy Uprising

The wheels of the comedy revolution are beginning to turn; the 2010 NZ International Comedy Festival kicks off on 23 April, with a cease-fire on the 16 May! The epicentres of comedic occupation are centred in Auckland and Wellington. The Cadbury® Crunchie® Comedy Convoy takes to the state highways enlisting comrades and starting hysterical uprisings across the nation.
The comedy revolution was seeded last year, with the 2009 NZ International Comedy Festival experiencing a 50% increase in ticket sales. This Festival launches the new decade with over 130 shows to experience; this is our biggest year yet!

This year’s opening demonstration, the Cadbury® Crunchie® Comedy Gala, hosted by TV3 rabble-rouser Rove McManus, sold out in record time!

A shining glittery star of the Festival is self-proclaimed ‘Lord of the Mince’ Julian Clary (UK), while audience favourite Heath Franklin as Chopper (AUS) is bringing his tough love back to NZ. Winner of ‘Best International Show’ at the 2009 Festival, Carey Marx (UK) returns with his new show ‘Doom Gloom Boom’ The smash-hit Broadway musical Avenue Q (USA) is winging its way to Auckland; watch out for full puppet nudity!

The NZ contingent is looking strong with TV3's '7Days' stars Jeremy Corbett, Paul Ego, Ben Hurley, Dai Henwood, Steve Wrigley and Jeremy Elwood leading the charge.

Witness our mirth militia promoted to the top ranks, as the prestigious Billy T Award will be bestowed on one of the following nominees; Rhys Mathewson, Jarred Fell, Clayton Carrick-Leslie, TJ McDonald or Vaughan King.
The Festival is implementing revolutionary technology into their arsenal – this year sees the advent of the first iPhone application for a NZ arts festival. The NZ International Comedy Festival application allows users to have on-the-go access to show information, daily guides to what’s on, the latest news, Google maps to venues and special deals for our fans.

The comedy revolution will be televised via the Cadbury Crunchie Comedy Gala, which will be broadcast on TV3 in late April.
