Lance O’sullivan Returns To Ellerslie’s Home Straight
Celebrities race on Segways to celebrate the countdown to Auckland Cup Week
Auckland Racing Club celebrates the countdown to Auckland Cup Week tomorrow, Wednesday 17th February, at Ellerslie’s final Barfoot & Thompson Twilight Summer Series racemeeting of the season.
With just 17 days until Auckland’s biggest party, Ellerslie is putting on an evening of fast paced entertainment with three hours of back to back racing, speed dating, and the Auckland Cup Celebrity Segway Race!
The celebrity race will see retired champion jockey, Lance O’Sullivan, take to the Ellerslie track for the first time since 2003, however this time he’ll be on a two wheels. Auckland Blue’s players Stephen Brett and Alby Mathewson, dancer Hayley Holt and TVNZ’s Tamati Coffey are among other sports stars and media personalities who have risen to the challenge.
“Lance knows the track well and he’ll have an obvious weight advantage, however racing is an unpredictable game and I know all the competitors will be looking to take out this title,” says Auckland Racing Club CEO Chris Weaver.
Punters who’s Valentine’s Day may not have gone quite to plan will have a second chance to find their match with speed dating at the Pimm’s Garden Party. Those looking for love will be divided into groups of twelve (six guys and six girls) and will have eighteen minutes to enjoy three minute dates with prospective partners.
The celebration will continue into the evening with the Birdcage Bash kicking off after the last race.
Gates open at 3.30pm, with the first race at 4.50pm.
