Final Day A Wash Out
Sunny Gisborne did not live up to its name for the final day of the Larsen Sawmilling Equestrian Championships today (Sunday).
Torrential rain forced day three of the popular annual show canceled and with it the final round of the New Zealand World Cup series.
But series leader going into Gisborne, Katie McVean, already had her hands firmly on the crown after Friday's speed class.
She and her team will now have to sit down and discuss whether she heads to Geneva, Switzerland, in April for the world final.
Saturday saw Brad Cunningham (Christchurch) and Cheltenham take the young rider class, ahead of Rachel McGregor (Auckland) on Kabo Benny Boy.
Six of the 17 starters went through to the jump-off with Cunningham mid-field laying down a clean and fast challenge for the remaining riders.
Last to go Rachael Bentall (Hastings) and Kiwi Brave gave their all, staying faster and clear to the last when they dropped a rail, relegating them to sixth place.
