LATE LOUNGE - JESS CHAMBERS Thursday, 4 February, 7pm The angelic-voiced Wellington singer/songwriter Jess Chambers kicks off TheNewDowse Late Lounge season for 2010. Jess was awarded the 2009 APRA Best Country Song Award for her song "Stringing Me Along" with the Woolshed Sessions and her lush harmonies are also well known from collaborations with Rhian Sheehan, Module, the Upbeats and Age Pryor. To complement the chilled-out evening vibe, tapas and drinks will be available from Café Reka with TheNewDowse galleries, bar and Shopette open until 9pm. Entry by Koha.

LONG LIVE THE MODERN (see attached release) New Zealand's New Architecture 1904-1984 opens 30 January TheNewDowse season of this acclaimed touring exhibition features profiles of the Lower Hutt Civic Buildings, designed in the 1950s by Ron Muston and Keith Cook and increasingly valued as examples of innovative modernist architecture. Other Wellington projects include Massey House by Ernst Plishke and Cedric Firth, The Hannah Playhouse/Downstage Theatre by James Beard and The Futuna Chapel in Karori by John Scott. Long Live the Modern brings together original drawings and period books, journals and photographs, as well as new architectural models and recent photographs of significant modern buildings from around New Zealand. Lisa Walker: Unwearable until 14 February 2010 TheNewDowse celebrates the achievements of one of New Zealand's most internationally successful jewellers with Unwearable, a survey exhibition that traces the dramatic changes in Lisa Walker's practice since the early 1990s - a tantalising transition from the traditional and wearable to the non. Trading in her soldering torch for the fast draw of the glue gun, Lisa Walker has spent the past 15 years living and working in Germany where her jewellery has evolved beyond the realm of practicality. Curated by Damian Skinner.

HotHouse (Season 2) extended until 21 March 2010 The second season of TheNewDowse's design exhibition HotHouse includes a smaller version of Rocket Lab's revolutionary rocket the Atea-1, it's called Rocket Lab: Shooting for the Stars, (2008). Hothouse also features: Twig Coat Stand: Knobby by Nature and Design, Winner of the 2009 Home New Zealand Design Award; Trompe L'oeil: Tricking the Eye, Winner of the 2009 Westfield Style Pasifika New Zealand Fashion Awards and the 2009 Mittel Moda fashion Award; and Tu Ake: Standing Strong, Maori-moko inspired running shoes by Titahi Bay's Wiremu Barriball, Winner of 2009 Moromoda Maori Fashion Week Award. Supported by GNS Science, a Crown Research Institute based in Lower Hutt, and Fraser Engineering Group.

CAO FEI: UTOPIA until 31 January 2010 Discover the work of rising art star Cao Fei. Born in Guangzhou and living in Beijing, she represents a generation who have experienced urbanization at a giddying rate. The young people in her videos and photographs inhabit elaborate states of transformation, set against the fast patterns of the cityscape. A joint project by ARTSPACE Auckland and the Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane.
