Thundestorm Forces Early Close to Peace Festival
A THUNDERSTORM swept across South Taranaki last night, forcing an early close to the Parihakla International Peace
Festival. Fortunately, by 9pm when the decision was made to shut down proceedings most of the festival programme had
been completed – only four acts were unable to perform, including the much-anticipated Parihaka debut by the
chart-topping Smashproof.
FESTIVAL spokesperson John Dix said after this morning’s poroproaki, “It was an unfortunate end to another successful
event but most people on-site braved the elements and few took up our offer to relocate to the three meetings houses and
the festival marquees.”
DESPITE the festival site resembling a muddy battlefield, today’s weather at Parihaka was hot and windless, making
things a little easier for the thirty-odd volunteers who have remained behind to assist with the packdown.
