North Island Showjumping Championships in Dannevirke
A Ceremonious Win
Ike Unsworth will always have a soft spot for Dannevirke now.
Today (Sunday) the professional rider from Tauranga and his mount Seremonie VDL won the sixth round of the New Zealand World Cup series at the North Island Showjumping Championships.
He and his imported Dutch mare, who won their only other world cup class more than a year ago, just edged out table leader, and the only other double clear round, Katie McVean (Mystery Creek) aboard Dunstan Delphi to take the honours over the Leicester Jarden (Waikanae) designed course.
Eleven top combinations started the prestigious round, with eight going through to the second round. Unsworth was last to go and got that fraction of a second edge he needed.
McVean was also third on Dunstan Daffodil with last year's series winner Anna Trent (Hawke's Bay) fourth on Cortaflex Nicalette NZPH, and fifth on Cortaflex Levitation.
McVean has a seven point buffer over Trent on the leader-board, with just three rounds left in the series.
She and Dunstan Delphi also took out the North Island Showjumping super league class, with Brad Cunningham (Christchurch) and Cheltenham taking the young rider championship and Timothy Myers (Taranaki) on Nectar the win in the pony grand prix.
Today wrapped up the three day show, which attracted good entries from all over the island.
