The Voice of Supertramp

Two fabulous NZ concerts
April 13 & 14

The voice of SUPERTRAMP, ROGER HODGSON, announces he will perform in WELLINGTON andAUCKLAND on April 13 and 14.

Tickets to these two stunning concerts at the Wellington Town Hall and Auckland's ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre, will go on sale soon with Ticketek and The Edge. Further information will be released in the coming weeks.

"The highest compliment that Roger can be paid is that he probably sounds better live today than in the recording studio more than a generation ago." Evening Standard - London, Review from Royal Albert Concert.

Roger Hodgson is the legendary voice, writer and arranger of most of Supertramp's greatest hits that led to more than 60 million record sales. He gave us amazingly enduring songs like: "Give a Little Bit," "Dreamer," "It's Raining Again", "Take the Long Way Home", "The Logical Song," "Breakfast In America," "Fool's Overture" and so many others that have become the sound track of our lives. Hodgson co-founded the progressive rock band Supertramp in 1969 and was with them for 14 years. He wrote and sang most of the classic hits that brought Supertramp worldwide acclaim. Roger recently received 2 awards from ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) for his songs being in the top played songs in their repertory, proving that they have indeed stood the test of time.

"There are few vocalists instantly recognizable from the first few bars of a song but Roger Hodgson is certainly one of that unique group. The singer/songwriter of Supertramp, his voice is as unmistakable as the distinct keyboard sound of his early hits."
The Times- London, Review from Royal Albert Concert

Hodgson co-founded Supertramp with Rick Davies, in 1969, and was the heart and soul of the band for 14 years. He played a major role in producing all the Supertramp albums released during the "Golden Years" of the band (up to 1983 when he left).

When Roger left Supertramp, he moved out of Los Angeles and away from the music industry to the mountains of Northern California to create a healthy home for his family. He chose not to have a career for a while but to focus on raising his children, living a quiet life in nature, and pursuing his spiritual values.

Many comment that he is like fine wine - he gets better with age and actually sounds better now than he did back with Supertramp.

His song Breakfast in America has been covered by many bands including James Blunt on his 2007 & 2008 tours and the Gym Class Heroes, who made a rap version, called Cupid's Chokehold / Breakfast in America, - which was #1 in the charts in many countries in 2007.

Before that, the Goo Goo Dolls had a #1 hit with Give a Little Bit and Scooter with their techno version of The Logical Song. Many of Roger's timeless Classic are as popular today as when he first released them 30 years ago.

The Supertramp Retrospectacle, an Anthology of Supertramp's music from the start of the band through the 24 years after Roger left, was released by Universal Music in the fall of 2005. The Retrospectacle sold over a million copies worldwide in less than a year.

Roger's first solo album, In the Eye of the Storm, sold over 2 million copies internationally. Roger not only wrote, arranged, sang and produced all the material on the album, but played almost all the instruments as well.

Roger's second solo album, Hai Hai, was released in 1987 and re-released in 2005 by popular demand.

2009 marked the 30th anniversary of the album Breakfast in America with over 20 million albums sold to date. It also marks the 35th anniversary of the Album Crime of the Century.

Awards & Acknowledgements:

In May 2005 and April 2007 Roger was honored by ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) in recognition of his songs Give A Little Bit and Cupid's Chokehold/Breakfast in America being one of the most played songs in the ASCAP repertoire during the preceding year

In 1980, Hodgson won the Ivor Novello Award from The British Academy of Composers and Songwriters for The Logical Song being named the best song both musically and lyrically. It also has the distinction of becoming one of the most quoted lyrics in schools.
